Its winter already.......yay! Trends come and trends go; some winter trends have been spotted this season. Want to know who determines these trends? Its mainly spotted during fashion shows of major designers (Milan, New York, Paris, London). Basic items like boots, scarves, jackets, sweaters, dark colours e.t.c., would never be outdated but styling makes a basic item look new and trendy. New trends have popped up this season like Chic Minimalism, Print meshing, Colour Pink, Sport Luxe, Casual Military look, Retro-Modern prints, Plaids, Menswear Inspired, Punk, School Girl Innocence (pleated miniskirts, pinafore type dress), Head to toe Monochrome, Prints;

Fabulous Plaid! Plaid is huge this season and the international catwalks used this fabulous trend. It is also known as Tartan or Check. This should be a major wardrobe staple. A great way to wear this trend is by layering it with other clothing like turtle-neck or shirt or blazer/jacket/coat.

Punk Glam!  Punk styling is revisiting our fashion this decade. Believe it or not, this dark and sultry style has taken over the fashion industry; Biker jackets, Spikes, Studs, Biker boots, Patent and all round leather, hairstyles even make-up with dark coloured lipstick and Eye make-up as well. This look has been reinvented to suit modern fashion. Its no longer about the head to toe dark look, this style can be worn minimally by wearing a piece at a time or even two. Try it out, wear leather leggings or biker jackets or spiked boots (one at a time though).

Colour me PINK! Gone are the days winter was associated with dull dark colours. Any shade of pink – bright pink, baby pink, pale pink .....you name it, has been spotted as one of the main colours this winter. Asides the fact that Pink is feminine, it also makes women look heroic..... yes o! Most designers used pink in their winter fashion shows. Be daring and wear pink from head to toe,  I tell you that will be a major fashion statement

Sports Luxe - This sporty look infused with a bit of luxury has been a fashion favourite for several seasons now. It has helped bring the trainers and sneakers back in a fashionable way, and it is also the reason why sweatshirts, woven T-shirts, joggers and baseball jackets are favourite items. This time around though, it is done a little differently. Previously, the sports-luxe trend was light, white and clinically minimal, but this time around it's got a lot more edgy with colour-blocked panels and neoprene pieces.

Men’s Wear Inspired!  This style is about women rocking men’s clothing without looking like a man. Be it blazers, jackets, waist coats, bow ties, pants and shirts, this winter there will be lots of menswear inspired outfits. Taking bits and pieces of menswear and incorporating it into your style. This classic style is great for work wear. It is important to be confident while rocking this kind of fashion trend. Accessorizing is important. Accessorize minimally with scarves hat, gloves and off course, your shoes and bag.

Head to Toe Monochrome! Wearing one-coloured outfit has never looked better especially in Nude and Pastel. Fashion shows this year showcased this styling in their collections. It might seem dull, boring or even odd, but I tell you, this style trend will definitely make you stand out and look fashion forward for both men and women. If you can wear an All black outfit, why not all Nude or all Pastel outfit. Try it out!

Beautiful Prints! Prints are not left out this season and our beautiful African print is inclusive. Though it is mainly associated with Spring Summer, but it has also been forecasted as a fashion trend this winter. Wearing print is a great way of personal emotional expression. Animal prints, Words and slogans, Floral prints, Aztec, Photo prints, retro geometric patterns are some of the prints this season. The key is to wear one loud print at a time (like an Ankara dress); one or two print accessory with a subdued dress/pants/skirt.

Following fashion trends can be tricky to pull off. It is essential to be fashionable but at the same time be an individual. It’s very easy to lose one’s self to the “latest” fashion trend. Not only does it affect individual taste, it affects finances as well. So, you can incorporate a few of these trends in your wardrobe one trend/piece at a time. chao chao!
