Winter is a fun season for fashion. There are so many must haves for winter like Coats, Jackets, Socks, Boots….etc. The list is endless but for now we would focus on Scarves and Sweater Dresses. The great thing about these two items is that they are available in a variety of designs, patterns, fabrics and colors.

SCARVES -

A great scarf is a winter wardrobe essential. It’s no doubt that scarves are an essential winter fashion accessory. Not only are they comfortable and help to keep the neck area warm, they also add flair and spice up any ensemble. A lot of people are nowadays seen wearing scarves on the streets, in offices, airport, red carpet and everywhere. Though its a staple winter wear, scarves can be worn all year round, the weather just determines the texture of scarf you use. They are also Unisex i.e.,  they can be worn be both men and women. It looks great on whoever wears it.

In winter, people usually prefer to wear dark clothes like black, dark blue, brown or gray and scarves are one of those statement accessories that can fully transform a dull look into something exciting. Not only do they add a pop and color, they inject instant glamour to a basic outfit, it’s also an amazing way to freshen up an outfit and make it look more elegant and put together. It’s perfect for layering; these fashionable layering pieces look effortless when paired with coats, jackets and other winter wear. They come in fun prints like stripes, floral, plaids, leopard, and skull while some are adorned with tassels, fringe, pom-poms, ruffles, fur etc. The possibilities are really endless with scarves. You can also use Ankara as a scarf, just make sure when using it the other colours in your outfit is neutral. You will definitely be unique!

KNIT OR SWEATER DRESSES -

For dress lovers like me……yay! The knit/sweater dress is best for the cold. This type of dress is made of wool and it’s the longer version of a sweater. They come in a wide variety of colours, lengths (knee and ankle length), thicknesses and styles. The sweater dress is a cold weather garment that can be worn in different ways. You can easily dress them up or down depending on where you’re going. They are easy, chic, versatile, comfortable and warm.

Sweater dresses worn over boots are a classic look, deciding what boots/shoes to show off will be your only worry....wink wink. Slip on a pair of funky tights and solid colored flats with your sweater dress for a fun look, or wear it with a pair of heels and a coat for the perfect elegant style. A Sweater Dress looks great with tights, knee socks, leggings and skinny jeans, if you decide to wear them on skinny jeans or tights, avoid the bulkier styles that have no shape. The key is to wear a sweater dress that shows off your curves in a complimentary way without being too tight or too big. You can also throw in a belt (Skinny or Thick) to show a bit of shape for those sweater dresses that are loose; using a belt (preferably colourful) would add sophistication to the dress which has the tendency to be boring. There is no limit to the gorgeous styles, patterns and colours of sweater dresses for winter. Just be sure to choose one that suits your style and taste so you can be both fashionable and comfortable.

While trying to look chic and warm during the cold season, let’s not forget to throw in bits and pieces of African prints.  Proudly African!
